Briana’s Graduation Photoshoot at Kean University in New Jersey

Graduation season is always special, and this shoot was no different. Everyone, meet Briana. She recently graduated with a degree in education and wanted to celebrate the moment with a graduation photoshoot at Kean University in New Jersey.

For anyone who may not know, RBS Studios Photography is based in New Jersey, so a lot of my clients come from all over the tri-state area. One of my favorite parts about being a photographer based out of New Jersey is getting to meet so many different people and visit so many different locations. One day we might be shooting in a quiet, rural part of Jersey, and the next day we might be in a more city-style location. It keeps things interesting, and honestly, it is never a dull moment.

Now, back to Briana’s shoot.

I had never really spent much time at Kean University before. Not because of anything bad, but because I went to Seton Hall University, and when I was in school, I pretty much stayed on campus. So it was nice to visit another university, this time with a camera in hand and a client ready to celebrate such a big accomplishment.

The goal for this session was simple: create a handful of strong, memorable images that Briana would be proud to look back on. Graduation photos are more than just pictures in a cap and gown. They represent years of hard work, late nights, growth, and everything it took to get to that moment. Especially for someone graduating with a degree in education, this is the start of a new chapter and a career that will make an impact.

Over time, my approach to photography has changed. I am no longer focused on taking a million images just to say we captured a lot. Instead, I like to focus on creating those hero images. The ones that stand out. The ones that feel polished, intentional, and worthy of being framed, printed, or shared with family and friends. From there, I narrow things down even more so my clients receive the best of the best.

Now, the weather was not exactly what I was hoping for. I would have loved a bright, sunny day, but we ended up with gray skies. And honestly, that was not a bad thing at all. Even though gray skies may not look exciting at first, they actually create beautiful soft lighting, which is perfect for portraits. I brought a flash just in case, but once we got started, I realized we really did not need it.

Briana made the session easy. She showed up ready, trusted the process, and allowed us to create some beautiful graduation portraits around campus. The shoot had a relaxed feel, and that is exactly how I want my portrait sessions to feel. No pressure, no awkward energy, just a comfortable experience where we create images that feel like you.
